In a major move, the President of Pakistan has emphasized the importance of equal rights for women in the workplace. The President has directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to comply with the orders of the Federal Ombudsman and redress the complaint of the complainant, Ms. Shahnaz Begum, with whom the CDA has issued a quarterly allotment. Discrimination was done.

Ms. Begum, a CDA washerwoman, applied for the allotment of Dhobi quarter, but it was given to a male employee junior to her in the seniority list. After contacting the Federal Ombudsman, CDA’s mismanagement was exposed and Ms. Begum was recommended to issue allotment orders for the quarter.
Despite the CDA’s contention that accommodation was always allotted to male employees, the President rejected their representation and upheld the orders of the Federal Ombudsman to issue the quarter’s allotment letter in question to Ms. Begum.
The President further emphasized that discrimination against women is against the spirit of founding Pakistan, the fair practices of Islam and the Constitution. This decision sets a precedent for equal rights for women employees in the country and sends a strong message to employers to ensure fair treatment of all employees irrespective of gender.
This decision is a win for women employees in Pakistan and a step towards achieving gender equality in the workplace. It is hoped that this decision will encourage more women to enter the workforce and contribute to the country’s development.
